Our Story

Beer with a view.

Go ahead, call it a mid-life crisis. We’d like to think we’re just two best friends who wanted to share a side-project. Andrew Messina, a fraternity brother at Tulane University way back in 1989 and myself, Dr. John Schoeb, sought to create a place for friends – old and new – to catch up and enjoy great beer and a view. What used to be the Crozet Moose Lodge 2164 is now a vibrant and welcoming brewery we call Pro Re Nata. This place is for you, as needed. Come on by, doctor’s orders.

Meet the Brewmaster

Brad Hulewicz Head Brewer

Growing up in San Diego, Brad got his start in the craft beer industry by volunteering at a few of the many local breweries. After transitioning East, Brad won 3 Great American Beer Festival medals under the tutelage of Bill Madden and Charlie Buettner at Mad Fox Brewing Company. As Pro Re Nata’s Brewmaster, Brad’s Old Trail Pale Ale gold-medaled at the Virginia Craft Brewers Guild in 2016. He’s got the recipe to cure whatever ails you … and it goes down easy.
